Oh look! A bear!

Ben had a bad weekend, which made Mommy and Daddy's weekend not much to sneeze at.

Ben has a nice new habit - I think some people may call it a "temper tantrum". He'll ask for something, so I'll get it/make it for him, hand it to him, and he FREAKS out. Seriously. He'll scrunch up his face and cry bloody murder. It's getting old really, really fast.

"Meeoooo?" (that's milk in Ben-talk) I hand him a sippy cup. "Nnnooooooooooooooooo!" (cue tears)

30 seconds later..."Naa?" (snack) I offer him a banana. "Nnnooooooooooooooooo!" "How about a cereal bar?" "Nnnooooooooooooooooo!" "A yogurt?" "Nnnooooooooooooooooo!" "Crackers? How about some crackers?" "Yeah? Nnnooooooooooooooooo!"

Then he'll lay down on the floor, face first, crying into the carpet. What's a mommy to do? Give him Fudgee-o cookies? I think not!

The one snack he won't turn down right now is an apple - peeled, but not cut up or anything. He'll happily munch on that, sharing with Daddy, till the cows come home. Not that I'm complaining - an apple is a great snack. It's just that he knows where the bag is, so he's constantly rooting around in the drawer, saying "app-o? app-o?"

Feeding him sucks. He won't eat anything but muffins and apples. Maybe some pasta. Oh and Kraft dinner. Really, he won't eat anything but carbs.

Ben's rough weekend was exacerbated by crappy sleep. He was up until 10:30 on Friday night, up at 8 on Saturday morning. He was in a very bad mood until his marathon 4 1/2 hour nap. Then he was the happy-go-lucky munchkin he usually is. Sunday, he was pretty good all morning. We went to the zoo, so he had so much fun looking at all the animals and running around while we chased after him. He really didn't nap yesterday afternoon, so he was in a grumpy mood again last night. This morning didn't look good either. Hopefully we'll get through this rough patch soon. Early to bed tonight!

That's all folks...hopefully we'll start updating more often, but I'm not making any promises!

the tantrums are resulting from a bit of understandable miscommunication. while "nah" does of course refer to "snack", it also has an alternative (and somewhat esoteric) interpretation, specifically: "boot dad in the nah-ds".
you're mistakenly handing him a cookie, when what he really wants is to see dad flop on the kitchen floor like a beached salmon.

Hey Carrie! Don't worry about Ben's carbs phase; he'll be on to something else soon. Did you read about Matthew's hotdog bun for dinner phase? Yeah, he's out that for now. Ben will move on too. Will he take Kraft Dinner with ketchup on it? If so, try tricking him by pouring V-8 onto his Kraft Dinner! Ha ha! Maybe that way you can get some veggies into him.

I clearly remember one weekend in undergrad when Gord and I spent the entire two days working on something, and as a consequence we ate all meals together. We ate carb products, cheese products, and cheesy carb products. That was all. This carb "phase" is Ben's paternal genetic legacy, arising victorious after bludgeoning to death any vegetable-eating genes he might have got from Carrie. My advice: 1) stock up on KD 2) see if you can return any of the non-carb food products to the grocery store.
Hurry, some of those non-carbs may be perishable!

I believe that even though Garth tried to corrupt me with something called "War-chest-her sauce", I remained firm on my platform of eating only nacho flavored cheezies from the bulk bags we bought from Safeway.

That aside, stocking up on KD is a good idea. I think we only have 2 cases in the basement. :)

My thoughts:

Anonymous - I will take your post into consideration next time Ben has one of these said tantrums. Maybe I could do the kicking and let off some steam...

Christine - KD with V-8? Even I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole, and lord knows I love the KD and ketchup combo! We've decided to cut back on Ben's juice and see if that increases his appetite!

Garth - Although I do like all types of veggies (except maybe cooked zucchini), I too am cursed with the carb-love. Ben is doomed, doomed I tell ya!

Gord (daddy) - we don't need more KD!
